Q: How Do I Backup my Custom Presets for Video FX and Transitions?

Answer: To restore/copy all your Video FX presets onto a new computer, use the following steps.

There are two types of Presets in Vegas - OFX Presets and Non-OFX Presets.
Most newer Video Effects today use the OFX standard and only older legacy effects do not use the OFX standard.
OpenFX (OFX), a.k.a. The OFX Image Effect Plug-in API, is an open standard for 2D visual effects or compositing plug-ins.

HOW TO BACK UP OFX PRESETS

OFX Video FX Presets are much easier to work with and are saved in the OFX Folder inside your Documents folder.
You do not need to enter the Windows Registry when Exporting/Importing OFX Presets.

1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the OFX Presets folder in your Documents folder.

2. Save this OFX Presets folder to a safe place on your Desktop or to a flashdrive.

3. Now go to your new computer and import all your saved OFX Presets into the OFX Presets folder.

4. When you open Vegas and go to your Video FX or Media Generator windows, you should automatically see all your saved Presets appear with the Default Presets in Vegas.

How TO BACK UP NON-OFX PRESETS

Non-OFX effects presets are saved into your computer's Windows Registry.

WARNING: The Registry is a very sensitive area to work in. If you are not comfortable with advanced configuration and system changes, ask an administrator to help you with this.
