Calculating the accurate dimensions of the image when working with a custom project can be very, very tricky sometimes. We mostly work with vertical videos (You'd be already familiar if you've seen Shinesfox fast slideshows ). Recently we started a 1080x1920 (9:16) video project and now all our images should be of the matching dimension. The pictures we sourced related to our video project were of different sizes. That’s when we realized we needed a way to calculate image dimensions for our video project.

We searched and found many tools, both common and those that support image upload features. Unfortunately, none of them supported live updates with a live image preview.

We were looking for an Aspect Ratio Calculator that would allow us to upload an image, make changes to its pixel and ratio fields, and finally preview the image with the updated dimensions. Once satisfied, we wanted to be able to view our image in full size or download it.

So this gap motivated us to introduce a tool that could perform all these tasks in one place.

Steps to Accurately Resize an Image (or Calculate Image Pixels) While Maintaining the Aspect Ratio
Here's how we quickly calculate pixel dimensions using the Aspect Ratio Calculator while keeping our aspect ratio maintained:
  1. Go to this Aspect Ratio Calculator and simply upload your image;
  2. The image's pixel dimensions and ratio dimensions will be fetched automatically and displayed in input fields (3355 X 5033 with Ratio (3355:5033), in our case);
  3. Just change the "pixel width" to 1080 and then "pixel width" will automatically adjust so that your image doesn't get distorted;
  4. Click on "Preview Updated Image" to view the resized image.
That's it! These pixel dimensions will perfectly resize your image accurately.

In this example, we decreased the resolution for our requirements, but you can increase it as much as you want for your requirements.

To maintain the aspect ratio, it’s best to stick to standard ratios, such as 16:9 for widescreen, 9:16 for vertical videos, and 4:3 for standard size. Also, try to resize your images with an image preview feature to see how the image looks in different dimensions before finalizing.
We hope this guide helps! If you have any suggestions for our calculator, please let us know to help us improve this ratio calculator for you. Thanks.
