Solved MSP 16 is crashing after update to build 142

Is there a problem with the update? I've completed one project and am in the middle of another and am having issues with MSP16 crashing to desktop when recording to the timeline. I've had a couple of times when it crashed when I was inserting clips and working with the pan submenu, but primarily it is when I am recording to the timeline.
Any issues along this line?

I have been experiencing the opposite since installing the latest update - program has stopped crashing.

I will assume when you say recording to the timeline, you mean recording audio using a microphone ?

I would recommend you try resetting the program - always the first step.
Reset instructions here:
www.moviestudiozen.com/doctor-zen-faq/573-how-to-reset-sony-software-to-default-settings#a1

After the reset, go to Options/Preferences/Audio Device
Set Device Type = Windows Classic Wave Driver
Make sure other options below and your microphone is properly configured.

ℹ️ Remember to turn everything off at least once a week, including your brain, then sit somewhere quiet and just chill out.

After resetting MSP16, I was reinstalling my VASST extention and when I go to view>extentions I get a pirated copy dialogue from China. This is not a pirated copy of the program and I fail to understand why this would be an extention. I don't dare click on the box at the bottom of the dialogue box for fear it will really nerf my system. Any one no how to remove this dialogue box?

It looks like you may have installed the Chinese version of Vegas.
That pop-up window is directing you to the Chinese sales page for Vegas - this is not a pirate website as far as I am aware.

Uninstall Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum from your computer.
Then download VMS16P from this link.
rdir.magix.net/?page=SM0ECBQVYR24
Now install this version.

Is everything back to normal now ?

Nope.
Uninstalled the program, and reinstalled using the link you provided all is the same as it was before. I still have that silly Pirated copy dialogue extension. If this is a chinese version where would it have come from? I didn't have this issue before I updated the build to 142.

BTW, I had a pop-up when I opened MSP16 to update to build 142, so I don't think anything funky went on with the update.

I have no idea what has happened.

What I can tell you is that no other person has reported anything like you are showing, after applying the update.

What do you mean by "I still have that silly Pirated copy dialogue extension" ?
Are you talking ONLY about the pop-up window with Chinese characters or are you referring to something else ?
OR
Are you referring to the Extensions menu ?
If you are referring to the Extension menu and it is showing something unusual, please take a screen shot of the Menu so I can see what you are talking about.

What happens if you uninstall your VAAST plugins and then reset Vegas again ?
1. If it goes away after uninstalling VAAST, that would indicate the problem is with the VAAST plugin and nothing to do with Vegas.
2. If the problem is being caused by VAAST, you need to contact the makers of VAAST and ask them for help.
3. If the problem has nothing to do with VAAST, you need to contact Magix Support and ask them for help.

Unable to take a screenshot as it requires me to use the alt key and that makes the extensions menu disappear. I was able to make a very short video of the issue with the extensions menu.
Extensions menu video

I will try the VASST uninstall and see what happens.

1st problem
I just realised that this new problem has nothing to do with your original problem.
Before we proceed any further, can you please tell me if your original problem has been fixed ?

I am not well at the moment - I've been in and out of hospital and still feel quite ill and depressed, so I don't have my normal energy levels to deal with anything too complicated. Derek.

2nd problem
When you mentioned Extensions, I was look here:
Tools/Extensions

Now that I know what you are talking about, I can tell you that everyone who has updated to Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum Build #142, has this weird PiratedVersionDialog. It does not affect the operation on the program, so just don't touch it !

It also has nothing to do with VAAST plugins - re-install VAAST.

I will ask the MAGIX developers what this PiratedVersionDialog means and report back to here.

All seems to be working well since I reinstalled VASST and reset MSP16. At least, it hasn't crashed any more.

Thanks for the help and sorry to here about your illness. I'm on disability now that my brain tumor has been removed, so I can empathize with your situation.

Hope you hear something positive from Magix. I have a service request in as well and will post anything that they come back with here.

Kelly

Thanks for your reply Kelly :)
I have already sent a message to one of the developers of Vegas and will report back.

I never realised you were in a similar situation to myself (I may have forgotten).
I was born with Hydrocephalus (excess CSF pressure in brain) and have had many surgeries to revise my shunt, which drains CSF from brain ventricles to abdomen. Starting 6 weeks ago I suddenly experienced extreme high pressure in my brain and it is refusing to go back to normal. All the tests show everything is working OK, so doctors don't understand what the problem is. I'm going to see a new neurologist next week for a 2nd opinion, because I can't live with these extreme headaches for much longer without going crazy. When I had my first shunt inserted at age 19, one of my roommates in the hospital ward was a young guy who had just had a big brain tumour removed. He ended up back in hospital to get a shunt inserted, because the removal of tumour caused fluid build up like hydrocephalus causes.

Before I had any surgery, I never realised you could experience so much pain in the brain !
All the best Kelly.

Derek :)
